UPDATE 3/21/2022: I am sitting at 46k miles now, pandemic has caused me to not have to travel much at all. My avg MPG has dropped to 23.8, then again it is 100% city driving, and for very short distances. I have had to finally change the battery last year, and I took it to Pep Boys to replace the spark plugs last summer as required by maintenance according to mileage. They F’d up so bad, I took it back, and they F’d up again, not sure how but they did. They finally said they fixed it, the start up vibration was worse than it ever was. The spark plugs are special order from any auto retailer here, and the dealership wouldn’t sell to me. I finally got a hold of some and replaced them myself. The vibration is less, but still the nuisance it was in 2019. My kid is now 6, and upgraded from car seat to booster seat. Takes up a lot less room and she seems pretty comfy, but because of the recessed seat belt receptacles, she cannot buckle herself in. Outside of the spark plug issue, this vehicle has been pretty good to me. However I am now expecting another child, and testing out the spacing, this vehicle is not suited for multiple kids that need car seats or boosters. So, sad to say that once the auto market stabilizes I will be upgrading to a larger vehicle. I won’t miss this vehicle at all, but it wasn’t a bad vehicle. All the infotainment system, the dash display, engine, everything works like it should just like day 1. Oh, side note, lots of tiny crevasses in the interior for little dirt particles and the typical kid mess make it hard to get it FANCY clean. You can get it pretty clean, but you will notice some areas that you just cant get SUPER clean.
UPDATE 3-29-2023
So, this thing has been pretty reliable. I took the Jeep in for maintenance at the dealership shortly after my last update, and they apparently broke off one of the vacuum tubes that connects to the air filter box. This is a $400 piece of plastic part to replace. I never noticed it until this year when my travel went from 1-2 miles a day to 30 as I am now working in the office. The engine would give off a whistle sound and when revving high it would whine, that is how I found out about the issue. I brought this to the attention of the dealer and they basically said “Prove we did it, looks like typical plastic rot and is not covered.” Well, I am not paying $400 for a piece of plastic so I got myself some JB Weld, coated that MF’er and stuck it back on, sealed it with more JB Weld. It isn’t pretty, but it has held for 3 months now. Vehicle still seems reliable, but after getting back under the hood I couldn’t help but notice at how much cheap plastic is used in the engine bay of this car. I mean I got the car cheap, but I didn’t expect this much cheap. And I doubt the quality has improved with the new models going for a hell a lot more than what I paid for mine. Also a TPMS module keeps randomly reporting service TPMS, doesn’t do it all the time, but does it about 70% of the time. With that said, my new child has arrived and it is freaking CRAMPED in the backseat with the booster and car seat. My child is now able to buckle herself in no issue now, I got that going for me, which is nice. Anyways, as soon as the auto market recovers, I will be getting rid of this car.
